The fact that stress-relieving art is proven to work really hit home when a friend asked for my help recently. He had an eighty-year-old father living with him. His father was getting increasingly cantankerous, and becoming hard to live with.
I decided to give him a large canvas print of one of my photographs used in a recent hospital art project. I let my friend select one of my prints that would seem most calming to his father. I then suggested he place it somewhere in the house where his father would see it frequently.
Three weeks later, when we bumped into each other, my friend said, “Thank you for giving me my Father back.” He informed me that his father was much calmer and more at peace than before.
